Credit Underwriter, Full Time

Reports To: Senior Manager – Credit Risk Management

Location: Des Moines, Iowa

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for adjudicating consumer credit applications based on company policies and procedures. In addition, this role will include interaction and support for contractors to assist with consumer credit questions, technical issues, and access management to the Watercress platform.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinates credit approval process, including but not limited to processing credit applications and initiating inquiries into customer’s bank and trade references.
  • Assesses the creditworthiness of potential customers, including establishing payment terms and credit limits; handles special credit arrangements and deviations from standard terms of payment.
  • Manage and complete the full loan adjudication process by underwriting loans according to lending policies while evaluating risk and ensuring the quality of loans.
  • Evaluate all documents and condition loan accordingly and document reasoning for all loan decisions.
  • Identify loans for exceptions while ensuring proper procedures are followed for approval and documentation.
  • Accountable for all aspects of ongoing and daily monitoring and control to ensure proper credit risk exposure, including accuracy of loan position and sufficient availability to facilitate funding requests.
  • Assists with the establishment and implementation of credit policy; recommends adjustments as needed.
  • Maintain knowledge of lending requirements, internal policies and procedures, and compliance and regulatory requirements.
  • Strengthen and build lasting customer relationships with internal and external partners.
  • Follow security and safeguarding procedures for the prevention of loss due to fraud and/or money laundering.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree (A. A.) or equivalent, or two to four years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, & Outlook.
  • Commitment to excellence and high standards.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Full capacity in assessing and reading Credit Bureau Reports.
  • Strong knowledge of consumer credit and lending practices.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Acute attention to detail and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Good judgement with the ability to make timely and sound decisions
  • Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS

  • Knowledge and experience in a call center environment
  • Knowledge of the credit and financial industry
  • Strong communication skills- both written and verbal
  • Superior time management and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and within a team

DETAILS

  • Flexible scheduling options, including a hybrid work schedule (Hours will range from 8AM -9PM on the weekdays, 9AM-7PM on the weekends)
  • Weekend and evenings shifts are fully remote (Weekends are not required but applicants who have weekend availability will be given priority)
  • $23.50 per hour plus up to 7.5% of annual salary paid out on a monthly basis, based upon performance, after the first 90 days of employment
  • All weekday hours after 5PM and all weekend hours are paid at a +10% pay differential
