Staff Accountant
Reports To: Senior Staff Accountant
Location: West Des Moines, Iowa
JOB SUMMARY
We are seeking a skilled Staff Accountant with a strong emphasis on technical expertise to join our finance team. In this role, you will be responsible for various accounting tasks, with a primary focus on leveraging your technical skills to ensure accurate bank reconciliations, payment research, data file preparation and analysis. While familiarity with accounts payable and accounts receivable is beneficial, this position places a greater emphasis on advanced accounting knowledge, financial modeling, and data analysis capabilities.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Processing daily loan accounts receivable transactions, receipts, ACH, returned payments
- Processing daily accounts payable transactions – invoices and employee expenses
- ensuring correct approvals and back up are in place
- ensuring payables are entered in a timely manner and all payments are made on time
- Communication to various departments, employees and external parties
- Reconciliations and regular month end duties as assigned by the Accounting Manager
- Document and archive management
- Participate in the development and maintenance of corporate accounting policy and administrative procedures.
- Assist with year-end audit preparation
QUALIFICATIONS
- AS or BS degree in accounting or comparable experience
- A minimum of 2 years of experience in bookkeeping or transactional accounting
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS
- Critical thinking with the ability to make sound decisions
- Ability to adhere to strict deadlines
- Able to think things through via high attention to detail
- Excellent communication, organizational and time management skills
- Microsoft office experience with a high efficiency in Excel
- Experience with financial or banking general ledger software
